Sarah Schummer SFG, SFL, CF-L1, NC

Sarah Schummer is a StrongFirst certified kettlebell instructor & barbell coach at Peak Performance Care.  She holds kettlebell group classes, as well as offering one-on-one training services.

Sarah was born and raised in Calaveras County.  She was an active youth; playing softball, swimming, and riding horses competitively.  At a young age, Sarah began a career in Emergency Medical Services & the fire service in the Sierra foothills.  She pursued education in fire science while working as a seasonal firefighter with CALFIRE, before transitioning to Tuolumne County Ambulance Service in 2005 as an EMT-1.  In 2010, her love of exercise prompted her to join CrossFit Sonora, and she became certified in December 2011 as a CrossFit level 1 instructor.  Her interest in promoting functional movement and exercise recovery also led her to become certified as a CrossFit Mobility coach, a program designed & instructed by renowned Physical Therapist Kelly Starrett.  Also recognizing the intrinsic relationship between exercise & nutrition, she went on to attend Bauman College in Berkeley CA, and graduated in 2014 as a Certified Nutrition Consultant.  Until this point, her own exercise had predominantly been barbell & bodyweight based, but particular interest in kettlebells was sparked when she received “Enter the Kettlebell” by Pavel Tsatsouline, as a gift.  Sarah began implementing kettlebells as accessory training for her barbell work, and was immediately impressed with gains in strength, stability, and endurance. The following spring, she trained for and attained StrongFirst kettlebell (SFG) instructor certification, and went on to attend the StrongFirst Lifter instructor (SFL) course, considered by many to be the gold standard in barbell training.  Sarah continues to increase her knowledge and ability to better serve the clients she works with, most recently attaining Functional Movement Screen (FMS) level one & level two certifications.

When she isn’t training, Sarah enjoys many outdoor activities, including hiking and riding her horses.  She loves to cook and bake, and share her love of food with friends and family.  Sarah lives in Sonora with her son, and their various farm animals.
